The Sports Betting Capital of New York Is…Eastern New Jersey. Meet the Fanatics Who Make the Journey Each Weekend. A train pulls into Hoboken Terminal. Commuters swarm the dim, dusty platform, then disperse, gone as fast as they came. The train disappears, too, back toward Manhattan, and a quiet settles in. A few people remain—a geriatric black man in a sweat suit and sandals, seated on a weathered bench; two potbellied white guys in oversize football jerseys, leaning against a concrete column; a handful of others—and all of them are staring at their phone. They may be strangers, but they belong to the same tribe. These are the carpetbagging gamblers of the Garden State.
They're not alone. The bettors enter this promised land anywhere along the 108-mile border between New York and New Jersey. They come down Route 17 to Mahwah, order disco fries at the State Line Diner, and wager. They cross the George Washington Bridge and bet in the KFC parking lot in Fort Lee. Some just pull over to the shoulder, whip out their phone, then U-turn back over the bridge. "I know people who drive to the Vince Lombardi rest station just to make their bets," Chris Christie told The New York Times in June, "and then turn around and go back to the city." In 2003, the pit stop was described by a trucker to The New Yorker's John McPhee as "a real dangerous place. Whores. Dope. Guys who'll hit you over the head and rob you." Today, the trucker might add to his list the gamblers.

Every Major Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Fan Theory In a lot of ways, the months and years of speculation about Star Wars movies are just as fun as the Star Wars movies themselves. The actual film only last for a few hours, while the theories, the discussions, and the research leading up to the big release date seemingly goes on forever.
There are hundreds of thousands of posts and blogs on fan sites and Reddit and other forums in the expanse of the Internet. And we here enjoy the conversation—we consume, we take part, we love to speculate, and theorize as much as the fans do. We love to create our own theories and bounce off of yours. We have spent the last few years since The Last Jedi browsing the YouTube videos and tweets and Reddit posts to curate the best, most believable theories about the conclusion of the Skywalker saga. How the Doctor Sleep Movie Changed Stephen King's Book to Match Kubrick's The Shining Writer and director Mike Flanagan had a tough needle to thread with his new movie, Doctor Sleep. The film is an adaptation of Stephen King's 2013 novel, which is itself a sequel to his 1977 classic The Shining. And in 1980 Stanley Kubrick famously used the book as the basis for one of the best horror films of all time. But The Shining the book and The Shining the movie are two very different creatures—which is why King famously hates the film adaptation. In order to honor his literary source material while still allowing the Doctor Sleep movie to fit into the world established by Kubrick's Shining, Flanagan had to make some changes. Beware: there are a ton of spoilers below. God Warrior Remains a Beloved Meme, But Marguerite Perrin Isn't Afraid of Dark-Sided Stuff Anymore In November 2005, Marguerite Perrin (later to be known as God Warrior), entered the annals of Reality Television Superstardom in a time where absurd reality television was thriving. The series, Trading Spouses, took mothers from polar opposite homes and swapped them with one another. Perrin, a devout Christian from rural Louisiana, was swapped with a Boston hypnotherapist, married to an astrologer. After a week together, Perrin returned home and gave one of the most iconic meltdowns to grace mid-2000s reality television, notably screaming, "They're tampering with the dark side," the gap in her teeth making that a in dark sound more like dork. "This is tainted! I am a God warrior, and I don't want anyone tainted doing anything with my family!" 44 Great Gifts That'll Make Your Dad's Day Dad has been giving you stuff since you were born.
