For a year or so in my twenties, I had the pleasure of working at an outdoors store in Chicago. The store was called Uncle Dan's and it was basically a local version of an REI. Unfortunately, my girlfriend could never remember the store's name. She told everyone I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods, which deeply insulted me. I liked hiking and camping, not dribbling different sized balls. I am outdoorsy, not athletic. Anyway, the time I spent working at Uncle Dan's made me an expert in outdoor gear. I can tell you why Osprey makes a better backpack than Deuter and recite from memory the specs of an Arcteryx outer shell. But none of that compares to the amount of useless information I have about water bottles. The Hydro Flasks leaked; the Yetis were too heavy; the straw on the Camelbak was impossible to clean; and the Nalgenes, though adorable, were impossible to drink from. There's no such thing as a perfect water bottle. At least there didn't use to be. Enter the Owala Free Sip. |

If you've seen a samurai in film or television recently, there's a very good chance he was played by Hiroyuki Sanada. Over the past decade, the Japanese actor has appeared in Westworld, Avengers: Endgame, Mortal Kombat, Bullet Train, and 47 Ronin, to name a few of his of latest, greatest hits. At 62 years old, the prolific actor now stars opposite Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4–easily one of best action films of the past decade. "I created this role just for you," Hiroyuki Sanada, who goes by Hiro, told Esquire about the first words director Chad Stahelski said to him before filming the latest John Wick entry. "I was so happy."John Wick: Chapter 4 also marks the first time Sanada has fought Hong Kong luminary Donnie Yen on screen, which proves to be a scene-stealing clash between two industry titans. For action fans? It's the matchup of a lifetime. |

Democracy is at death's door, not in darkness, but in the light of the Tennessee springtime. If you want to see what the last president*, and the political party of which he is the perfect product, don't look in a courtroom in lower Manhattan, look in the state Capitol in Nashville, where you can see his true legacy, and the raw material out of which that legacy was formed. The protest in the Tennessee House was in reaction to inaction by the Republican majority as regards the mass shooting at the Covenant School. That protest was followed on Monday by a mass walkout by students from the city's high schools. And now, as the protests reach into the legislature, the Republicans therein are working on throwing out the people who protested. |
