I have a modest proposal to bring before the country. It is my considered opinion that we'd all be much better off if the Republicans were to stop inflicting candidates on the rest of us who seem to have been recruited from the nuthouse. Our latest example is Mark Robinson, the GOP lieutenant governor of the newly insane state of North Carolina who is currently the Republican candidate for the top job. Robinson fell out of the wackadoo tree and hit every damn branch on the way down. |

One of the fun challenges of writing WHY WE LOVE FOOTBALL: A History in 100 Moments was trying to capture the different emotions tied up to pro football and college football and high school football and even a few other kinds of football. Each brand of football offers its own delights. For college football, I wanted to try and capture a bit of that glorious and particular football feeling of a Saturday afternoon somewhere in America. And I thought the best way was to write about some of those moments that, honestly, could only happen in college football. Here are three of my all-time favorites. I saw all three of them live at different stages in my life, but I remember exactly where I was when each one of them happened. I'll bet you do, too. |
