The modern NFL is all about quarterbacks, and Super Bowl LI is the latest in a string of season-ending showdowns between superstar passers. The Patriots, of course, have Tom Brady, who has evolved from stand-in to virtuoso to possibly the greatest of all time. Matt Ryan, the Falcons' starter, will likely win this season's Most Valuable Player award thanks to a season full of theoretical-seeming statistics. The biggest game of the year figures to feature plenty of impressive moments from two masters of the most demanding craft in sports.
If Brady and Ryan will be the key figures, though, neither will be the most astonishing. That designation goes to Julio Jones, the Falcons' dynamo wide receiver. Among dedicated football fans, Jones is something of a weekly tall tale, traveling from city to city and adding to a heap of outlandish feats. He teleports past cornerbacks; he skies to rip unreachable balls out of the air. He is far too fast for someone of his size—6'4", 220 pounds—and far too strong for someone with his speed. If he ranks behind the quarterbacks in terms of strategic value, he trails no one in his ability to make viewers' eyes goggle and breath catch. The signal-callers' high-speed chess will captivate on Sunday, but the Julio Show will thrill.
