The 16 Best Shoes to Get You Ready for Summer

Fall may be the season when we really start dressin', but summer is the season where we get to take it easy, indulge in the warm weather with abandon, and really kick back. And speaking of kicking back: Because you'll be wearing less, each item in a given outfit has to be extra considered, especially your footwear. Those sneakers aren't just grounding the look, they're helping to define it. Those slides aren't simply for shuffling, they're for stunting, too. And those loafers? Well, they really pull the vibe together. With all that in mind, it's time to start shopping for the perfect pair (or three) of summer shoes. Are you in the mood for some canvas plimsolls? Driving mocs? Are you a desert boot dude or a Birkenstock boy? These are the questions you have to ask yourself. And then, once you've plumbed the depths of your personality, go out there and get whatever your heart desires. The sun's shining. The weather is warming. It's time to—dare we say it?—really start dressin'. But it's summer (almost), so start with the shoes. Read More

Justin Bieber Is Pissing People Off Again

It's not the first time we've been here with Justin Bieber. In a series of photos the singer posted on Instagram on Monday, he debuted a new hairstyle that looks suspiciously like dreadlocks. Bieber already has a history of wearing traditionally Black hairstyles like cornrows and dreadlocks (2016 was a big year for cultural appropriation in the Bieber camp), and it seems like he has a short memory, even if the Twittersphere doesn't. People are mad, especially coming off his new album Justice, which features clips of Martin Luther King, Jr. speeches, which some have pointed to as an example of performative activism. His new hairstyle, and the calls of cultural appropriation it's evoked, has not helped the woke image he so desperately wants to have. Read More

I Went Down the OAN Rabid Hole to See What Our Fellow Citizens Are Being Fed

Just for fun, Charlie P. Pierce decided to dip into the One America News Network's EXCLUSIVE (!) COVERAGE of the farce currently underway in Arizona. Their live stream consists of several cameras showing the huge arena and people wandering around between work stations. (There's much more action on the live polar bear cams from Churchill in Canada.) There is no sign of the Cyber Ninjas, who allegedly are "protecting" this ridiculous exercise but, then again, they are Ninjas, trained in the dark arts of invisibility, so who knows? They might be everywhere. In case you're wondering what the EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE (!) is producing, it's pretty much what you'd expect. Read More

17 Decked-Out Gift Baskets to Give Mom for Mother's Day

There are about a million and one gifts you could get mom for Mother's Day—unique things, handy things, last-minute things, Amazon things. But what if, instead of settling on one single thing, you put a lot of things into a basket to present to her at once? And by "you," we mean a brand that'll do all the work of curating, collecting, and artfully presenting for you. What we're saying is: Shoot the moon with a gift basket. There are quite a few out there. Admittedly, some eschew the basket form for a box. Same difference.
