All the Best July 4th Sales to Shop for Your Home and Closet

In what might be one of the most-country country song lyrics of all time, it was proclaimed that on a hot summer night, "freedom and fireflies are in the air." Thank you, Billy Currington. You bet they are. Also in the air? The utterly American promise of Fourth of July holiday weekend deals. This year, you can spend your money in a mad Independence Day spree on a bunch of stuff—primarily, mattresses and bedding. Secondarily, menswear and gadgetry and furniture. Do with your money what you will. That's the patriotic way, or so we've been told since we were old enough to grasp a dollar bill in our chubby hands. But should you like some guidance on where to shop, in between admiring all those fireflies in the air, we Esquire editors have highlighted some of our favorite sales. Take a look. Todd Snyder and Birdwell's New Board Shorts Are Like Vintage, But Better

While it's not too tough to find it in a surplus military jacket, a pair of jeans, or the aforementioned T-shirt, finding it with a pair of swim trunks isn't exactly an everyday occurrence. (Plus, uh, do you really want to wear something someone else wore for ages without underwear?) So it comes as incredibly welcome news this week that Todd Snyder, as part of his ongoing 10th-anniversary celebration, has teamed up with the folks at Birdwell Beach Britches to create a collection of stonewashed board shorts meant to look and feel sun-faded and broken-in from the very first wear—no sorting through the thrift store racks required. The Best Pearl Jewelry for Men. Because You Deserve a Little Luster.

Not all pearls are created equal. And if you want to just test out the look for yourself, going with baroque pearls—which have an irregular shape—or even imitation pearls may be the way to go. Once you've sorted out how much you're willing to spend, the only question becomes: what's your vibe? Do you want something delicate and classic? Something offbeat and a little bohemian? Does dangling a pearl earring a la Harry Styles sound suitable, or would you rather try a pearl bracelet or even a pearl ring? Maybe all of the above? Aside from some very specific concerns—a women's choker might not actually fit a bigger guy, for instance—the whole damn category is unisex. Read More

Rare Photos of Celebrities Inside L.A.'s Infamous Viper Room

The Viper Room opened on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood in 1993. Johnny Depp was one of the owners (he would give up his stake in 2004). The music venue quickly became a gathering spot for the cool kids in Hollywood and gained notoriety when, on Halloween night in 1993, River Phoenix overdosed on drugs and died at the age of 23. That did not hurt the club's popularity, however. Stars of the time continued to turn up, including Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, and Keanu Reeves. Adam Duritz, the lead singer of Counting Crows, bartended at the Viper Room while his band was putting out hit singles. During the '90s and early 200os, it was one of those places with an outsized reputation. It was also relatively free of photographers; however, some photos were taken throughout that period, and they offer a glimpse into a wild world. Read More
