Listen to the Crowd in This Clip From January 6

There's some controversy at the moment over the fact that in trial proceedings for those accused of crimes relating to the events of January 6, federal prosecutors have exercised a virtual monopoly on releasing video of the events. The government's grounds for restricting defendants from getting video released that they claim will exonerate them seem spurious—they've typically cited Security reasons, labeling bits of footage "Highly Sensitive"—and as much video as possible should be released in the interests of transparency and the public's fuller understanding of the assault on the Capitol. (That's not to mention the prospect that video could actually be exonerating in some individual cases.) But what has been released—again, mostly at the direction of the Department of Justice—has left little doubt as to the wide sweep of events that day. Read More

Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale Is Back. Here's What to Shop Early—or Add to Your Wish List.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is beloved by fans, first and foremost, because it's a kind of reverse approach to marking things down. Instead of offering discounts on old, out-of-season stock, the team at Nordstrom knocks a very respectable percentage off a bunch of brand-new merchandise. For the guys who can't wait to Really Start Dressin', that translates to a golden opportunity to stock up on fall-friendly pieces like jackets, overcoats, jeans, and boots. For the people who only care about making sure they're not naked and their clothes aren't falling apart when they step outside, it's the perfect time to stock up on basics like socks, underwear, tees, and everything else that doesn't necessarily get better with age. And, needless to say, the entire spectrum of shopping personalities between these two extremes is likely to find some discounted new arrival that piques some interest or raises an eyebrow (in a good way). The Best Summer Songs of 2021

A perfect summer song is a special breed of music. It begs you to move, on oppressively hot nights out to the dance floor, or from your lounge chair under the blistering afternoon sun. When it comes on the radio, the only conceivable response is to roll your windows down and shout the lyrics at each passing car on the highway. While this season remains muted compared to years past, as concert calendars fill slowly and Covid-19 restrictions wax and wane unexpectedly, the airwaves are anything but dull. Swedish House Mafia, the dance music titans who ruled the mid-2010s, are back with a thumping new anthem while John Mayer's return to form offered an instant pool party classic. Tyler, the Creator has found a new, unhurried groove while Olivia Rodrigo's Sour LP is the perfect mining grounds for edgy, campfire singalongs. There's more, of course, from the likes of a newly-transcendent Japanese Breakfast, as well as Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and Lorde, if you'll stick around. There are the 15 best songs of summer 2021. The Untold Story of El Chapo's Movie Dreams

El Chapo wanted to make a movie. Picture this: The most wanted man in Mexico has clawed his way back to power after escaping from what was supposed to be the most secure prison in the country. He has rebuilt his empire, and is moving more coke, weed, heroin, and meth into the United States than ever before. Then, after being captured again, he escapes—again! He's back in the mountains, no prison can hold him! His name is synonymous with drug trafficking. He's the most famous capo in a generation, having risen from a crowded field of fellow smugglers to be the most recognizable brand-name drug lord since Pablo Escobar. He's outlived most of his enemies, only to see them replaced by new enemies. Read More
