The fashion designer and fragrance magnate Tom Ford once said that he sprays four or five different scents on himself throughout the day. "I don't change my fragrance for the evening," he said. "I simply add to my existing one." This is a bold move, befitting an icon like Ford. It's also a practice that many young cologne enthusiasts have embraced. They call it "layering." Anyway, we identified the best fragrances for the fall, which you can read here. How you apply them is up to you. – Michael Sebastian, editor-in-chief

Find your new signature scent for the season ahead. |
Is there anything better than this time of the year? Football, college football, fashion weeks for those so inclined. But fall isn't just about swapping your linen pants and beach shoes for waxed jackets and boots, nor is it only about firing up the Weber before winter rolls around. A big part of fall, for us at least, is switching up your fragrance. Warm weather generally favors breezy, aquatic, and citrus blends, while the cold air makes us want spice, smoke, and incense. The best fall fragrances, though, don't always pick a side. Heady yet uplifting, they balance both ends of the spectrum. Think icons like Diptyque Tempo and Azarro The Most Wanted Intense, alongside buzzy newcomers like a labdanum-spiked spin on Bleu de Chanel and D.S. & Durga's wool-inspired Grey Blazer made for Todd Snyder. There's a lot of great options, and a lot to dig into. If you're in need of inspirations, we've got you covered. |

As someone who hails from the Greater Philadelphia Area, I would often joke during the peak of Mare of Easttown's popularity that the Delco accent sounded completely normal to me. Every what are youse dern over there? sounded like proper English to my wooter-ice-soaked brain. So, Mare creator Brad Ingelsby kickstarted his new HBO drama, Task, with Mark Ruffalo's character asking his daughter if she wanted to meet for Rita's after school. He asked this, of course, as he drank from an oversized, plastic Phillies cup. That's when I knew that it was our time to shine once again. Task stars Ruffalo as a semi-retired FBI agent named Tom Brandis, who spends his days recruiting new members at a local career fair. Thanks to a string of violent robberies in the area, he's roped back into fieldwork and asked to lead a task force to find and arrest the culprits. Faith and forgiveness will likely define many of the characters' arcs as I recap this new crime drama for the next two months. We're dealing with heavy family trauma here. And somehow, the premiere deftly balances these serious subject matters with characters who sound like they're gargling marbles. |

Pierre Mahéo, founder and creative director of Officine Générale, is one whose work I have steadily consumed over the course of my menswear career. The brand has existed since 2012, but I really became enamored in the early 2020s after visiting the downtown store here in New York. Mahéo has built his brand on subverting what's trending and expected. At Officine Générale's inception, when flat-front was king, Pierre forged ahead with his take on pleated trousers. It's hard to imagine now, but at the time, the move was frowned upon; pleats were considered dated. But when the Sartorialist photographed him looking effortless in his pleated pants, the image went viral and they soon sold out. Mahéo was born in Brittany, France, where he studied until moving to Paris at 12. After finishing his schooling in Paris, he went to fashion school—but left after just two days. "I knew it would take forever, and I didn't see it as an opportunity at that time," he says on reflection. "I decided to do my homework by [getting a job in the industry]. That was really the starting point." | |
