The United States played its part in all this, escalating tensions by pushing NATO's reach into Russia's sphere of influence. Latvia and Lithuania chose to join the alliance of their own accord, however, and there is no excusing what has happened since. The Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin, has invaded neighboring countries by habit. This invasion of Ukraine is almost a misnomer—the Russians invaded long ago. The salon debates over what share of the blame the Americans ought to take will be of little comfort to the Ukrainian people, who seem to be pawns in the game—not just for Putin, but for the bizarre coalition of talking heads who run interference for him in the West. It did not seem to be a complicated situation for the Ukrainian ambassador to the U.N., who turned directly to address his Russian counterpart during a meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday. "There is no purgatory for war criminals," Sergiy Kyslytsya said. "They go straight to hell, ambassador."
These techy timepieces won't break the bank. We don't need to tell you that this is an amazing deal. Recently I saw Real Fear in all its terrible might. We frequently see visits from people who are in mental health crisis. Because our medical system is irretrievably broken, there is very little outpatient help, particularly in the rural areas where I work. People come to the ER for help. (The First Law of Emergency Medicine: If you don't know what else to do with someone, bring them to the ER, since we legally have to see everyone). Mostly all I can do is determine if they are a threat to themselves or others. If so, I'll put a legal hold on them and get them admitted to a psych facility, a process that lately can take days. When I see kids, it's particularly hard. Not only are resources even more inadequate, but the stories are absolutely heartbreaking.
Big deals you can't miss. Up to 50% off the cast iron pots, pans, and Dutch ovens you've been dying to add to your kitchen top shelf. Shirley Blackwell's death was completely ordinary. She died on the day after Christmas 2020, at the age of 70, after long term kidney and lung issues. The event was reported in the local paper in Alliance, Ohio, dispassionately listing the usual things that are printed when a beloved member of a community dies: where she worked, who she is survived by, and details about where the celebration of her life would be held. Nothing was mentioned about the infamous pictures that she appeared in as part of a series for Life magazine, an event that would alter the course of her family forever. Nothing was said about the struggle she had faced for years trying to find money for college. And nothing certainly was mentioned about the time her mother's dreams were put on hold after being fired from her job for participating in the magazine spread. Instead, niceties appeared in her small hometown paper and the death of the little girl in her Sunday best standing alongside her aunt outside of a "Colored Only" entrance in 1956 was ignored by the national media.
