Early this week, following the batshit season finale of The White Lotus—which, yes, is absolutely on this list—Esquire's editors convened to deem the best 10 TV series of the year. You should know: It wasn't easy. 2022 was the year Ozark made its big Netflix return, Amazon offered us a beautiful look into the lives of three young adults on the autism spectrum, and ABC (yes, A-B-C, the network) turned out the best comedy of the year. Apple TV+ also muscled its way into the streaming game with two of the year's biggest hits, Pachinko and Severance. But not all of them made our final cut. That's showbiz. Here are Esquire's 10 best TV shows of 2022.

Yes, the attempt to overthrow the results of the 2020 presidential election was a perilous time for the republic, being a direct, many-pronged assault on constitutional government and the rule of law. But for the people in the white-shoe end of the effort, it also was a pretty sweet gravy train. Bring down the government? Hey, it beats working. |

I got my six-year-old daughter a scorpion. It was small, and it was dead, and it was encased in a rectangular block of sucrose, a lollipop. The scorpion was not much bigger than a wasp, and it was suspended in an awkward pose, its stinger bent at an unnatural angle. Still, it was a scorpion, and even a feeble scorpion is fearsome enough. There is no formula for the perfect gift. I've given tons of duds. On the rare occasions that inspiration and luck collide, however, I like to think my gifts to Anwyn make her marvel a little, and blur the boundaries between imagination and reality. |
