Consider these the foundation to great personal style. |
When it comes to building a wardrobe, knowing where to start is half the battle. You don't need loads of clothes to look good—it's a common misconception that volume equates to style; in fact, less can often be better. So where should you start? Here is a mix of enduring classics and slightly more left-field choices that are guaranteed to work. Consider them a starting point or an upgrade, depending on where you are in your personal style journey. |

| Man, I love The Rip. I love that it's so dark and seedy. I love that it's another Matt Damon/Ben Affleck joint. I love that it's about crooked, shitty cops who backstab other crooked, shitty cops. I love that it's the second Netflix flick where Ben Affleck tears open the walls of a rundown house and finds millions in drug money. I love that it has Sasha Calle, who was done dirty by the superhero industrial complex (of which co-star Affleck might relate). I love that nothing about its story makes sense, but in the moment the filmmaking has such bravura that you're going along with it at every step. I love the part where Matt Damon walks in from out of focus, with an ambient music cue that declare in no ambiguous terms he's lost his marbles. I love that it has Scott Adkins, and I love that he doesn't do a lick of kung fu. I love the cute dog. I love that this is a movie for adults. I love how Ben yells "Fuck!" with the same ease of his breathing. I love The Rip so much, is all I'm saying. But I hate it's getting dumped on Netflix. In January. The nerve! |

Ginger is good for you. Not in a woo-woo way either. Actual medical entities say that its benefits extend to gastrointestinal health. And if you're looking to find a way to stuff the stuff into your diet, let me suggest a slightly unconventional, definitely heinous method: More ginger beer. Okay, so ginger beer isn't exactly healthy. Sugar and all that. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't enjoy it. Especially in a cocktail. Don't feel limited to the Moscow Mule or Dark 'n Stormy, though. All ginger beer cocktails shine thanks to what's called dynamic contrast. The fancy term refers to the pleasurable experience derived from different flavors and textures occurring at once. Ginger beer is spicy, sweet, fizzy, cold, refreshing. Mix that with other ingredients, and you're in for a treat. I reached out to expert mixologists and drink-slingers to get the inside scoop on how they use ginger beer to create a slew of tasty stalwarts and newfangled concoctions alike.
