Three Days After El Paso, Fox & Friends Re-Ups the 'Invasion' Conspiracy Theory the Shooter Cited

The hosts of Fox & Friends are stupid, but surely not this stupid. They must know by now that all the rhetoric about hordes of brown criminals streaming across the border is sending dangerous currents through the country. The El Paso shooter explicitly invoked the language of a "Hispanic invasion of Texas" in his manifesto, a screed that echoed what you might hear from the president or on Tucker Carlson's Fox News show on any given day. Donald Trump's campaign " has posted more than 2,000 ads on Facebook that include the word "invasion'" since January, according to The New York Times. The connection is so clear that it leaves us with the strong possibility that people using this rhetoric know exactly what they're doing and they do not care. Read More

A Lifelong Tool Fan's Desperate Plea For the Band to Never Release the New Album

I am a devoted, lifelong, unapologetic fan of the band Tool. I own all their albums on every available form of media, have 20 plus concert tees, a giant tattoo of the eye from the Aenima album on my inner arm, and I've flown to five states and logged over 4,000 driving miles to see them (which is more than I've done to visit my own family). Toni Morrison, the celebrated American novelist and Nobel Prize laureate, has died at 88. Born Chloe Ardelia Wofford in 1931, Morrison lived a peerless life in letters. Her literary education began in Lorain, Ohio, where she grew up reading Jane Austen and Leo Tolstoy. In her youth, Morrison studied English at Howard University, then went on to earn a master's degree from Cornell University. Read More

The Water Wars Cometh

This shebeen has been saying since it opened that the next world war is going to be fought not over oil or mineral wealth, but over water. Some countries are going to have it. Some are not. And every human being on the planet needs it to survive. Comes now the World Resources Institute to tell us how completely freaking dire the situation already is. Read More

Manscaping Is a Terrible Word, but It's Not Necessarily a Bad Idea

Manscaping is, we would like to establish right off the bat, a kind of ridiculous word. But the concept of manscaping—as in, body grooming—is a perfectly reasonable one. It's just not one that gets discussed all that often. You were probably taught how to shave your face back in the day, maybe by an elder guy in the family or by intently watching guys shave in movies. People talk openly about shaving their faces. But what about...everything else? Read More
