Prep has gone through so many waves and permutations that trying, in 2022, to pin it down as any one thing is a fool's errand. Sure, it's still rooted in traditional stuff—think oxfords and cardigans, chinos and plimsolls—but depending on who's doing the interpreting, it can twist outwards in new, ever-more-interesting directions. And when New York-based designer Todd Snyder is in the mix, you can bet that means reworked classics, a healthy dose of irreverence, and a heaping portion of sportswear staples. Case in point: the new "Rebel Prep" collection, the second collaborative outing from Todd Snyder and Jack Purcell (yes, like the Converse shoes with the little rubber smile stamped into the toe cap).

What does Terry Bradshaw want to say to the world? It's the question behind HBO's Going Deep (out February 1), which combines footage from The Terry Bradshaw Show with an affecting—and surprising—interview with Bradshaw. The man won four Super Bowls. Been at FOX for over 20 seasons. Played Matthew McConaughey's dad in Failure to Launch. But he's also long faced an unfair perception of stupidity from media, fans, and even some players. Bradshaw has been divorced three times. Had such a tumultuous relationship with his Steelers coach, Chuck Noll, that he didn't even attend Noll's funeral in 2014. He hears about it all, even today. But there's something else that's gone on, too. Justice Stephen Breyer is retiring from the Supreme Court in a move with unambiguous political timing after a period where Breyer tried to downplay the influence of partisan politics on the high court. But things have already moved beyond Breyer himself to the question of who will replace him, a process that will do little to buttress Breyer's onetime fantasies of apolitical adjudication of the law. During the 2020 campaign, President Joe Biden pledged to nominate a Black woman to the big bench, and on Thursday afternoon he confirmed that he will follow through on that promise. It hasn't yet happened, to be clear, which hasn't stopped the pre-backlash to the future event from rolling in. The mounting emergencies of the modern world—suicides, homelessness, climate disasters— are now prevalent in America's most beautiful places: its wilderness parks. The rangers who care for them wonder how long they can last. Welcome to the front lines of the new great outdoors.
