For years, many in the West lamented Russia's system of kleptocratic oligarchy while Western governments happily welcomed in the oligarchs and their gobs of cash. New York City is home to a flock of "ghost buildings," where elites from Russia—and beyond—have pied-a-terres that are seldom lit up at night because nobody is ever there. Entire neighborhoods in London were oligarched over the years, along with one of the city's flagship soccer teams, Chelsea, when Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003. But that all began to change, slowly, in 2014, as Russia engaged in naked aggression towards Ukraine. And now, with Vladimir Putin's campaign of violent terror against that country, it's all begun to come apart.
These techy timepieces won't break the bank. Shorts can be a divisive topic. Some people wear them from the moment the temperature climbs above 50 until the first snow. Others wouldn't be caught dead in shorts, even when the mercury climbs into the hundreds. In the '80s, celebs embraced shorts—mostly short shorts. Here are some of the finest looks. (The list includes a couple looks from the '90s because we just had to include them.) And if you're looking for a guide on how to wear shorts now, We have you covered.
You don't want to clean. And with discounts like these, you don't have to. Ebert got it. In his three star review of the mostly-reviled 2004 Stephen Sommers film, Van Helsing, the late critic wrote, "At the outset, we may fear Sommers is simply going for f/x overkill, but by the end, he has somehow succeeded in assembling all his monsters and plot threads into a high-voltage climax." While mostly everyone else trashed the Mummy director's ludicrously ambitious attempt at lassoing not two but four movie monster franchises together in one fell swoop, Ebert insisted, "Van Helsing is silly and spectacular, and fun."
