Men's fragrances are having a real moment. The entire fragrance industry is booming, and much of it is driven by guys buying colognes—particularly young men. One curious habit of theirs: mixing various scents to create a unique cocktail of fragrance. That might be a bridge too far for you, but regardless, it's a good time to smell nice. Our grooming expert, Garrett Munce, has smelled all of this year's new colognes and highlighted the very best. The through line, he says, is nostalgia. These will help you smell good while you're trying to keep it together. |
Things are wild this year (derogatory), but the fragrances are popping off (complimentary). As the news offers a fresh glimpse into chaos with each passing day, we are clinging to what keeps us grounded and sane. In this case, one of those things is scent. It might sound silly or frivolous, but scents have a special place in our self-care routines because they have a unique ability to alter our mood. You can't deny that a good cologne has the unique ability to make you feel, well, good. Is it any surprise then that in such a tumultuous year (which is only half over), the colognes we're gravitating toward are the ones that make us feel happy and transport us to nicer times, more beautiful locations, and a more positive mental headspace? Even if you don't choose to read as much into them as we do, these best new fragrances of the year so far are worth picking up, because right now the least we can do for ourselves is smell damn good. | |

In the fall of 2003, I slipped on the ice leaving my office one night. My hip hurt for a year afterward, but mostly I ignored it. When the pain didn't go away, I saw my doctor, who ordered an MRI. I went to his office, and he told me there was a tumor on my hip. I was thirty-eight years old, pursuing a promising career in journalism, married to a woman I loved, and the first-time father of a seven-month-old daughter. At the time I was diagnosed with the type of cancer it turned out I have, a rare and incurable form of blood cancer called multiple myeloma, I was told I had eighteen months to live. That was more than twenty-one years ago. In those twenty-one years, I have undergone a barrage of treatments to combat my disease. But the most remarkable treatment I've had so far is a cutting-edge procedure, approved by the FDA for use in cases like mine only in 2022, called CAR-T therapy. This is the story of that treatment. |

Did you know you can buy lawn mowers online now? Sure, you can still head over to Home Depot and buy a big ol' John Deere riding mower, but if you don't need to mow an entire football field, Amazon probably has exactly what you need, especially during Prime Day. The best Prime Day lawn mower deals feature a wide range of mowers, specifically electric mowers, that are affordable, powerful, and just as effective as your dad's old gas mower. Popular brands like Ego and Greenworks have huge markdowns, and you can even pick up an old-school Fiskars push mower if you prefer to keep things analog. A lawn mower might fall into the boring category and not be as exciting to add to your cart as some new clothes or AirPods, but it's a satisfying purchase that will keep your yard looking fresh. |
