I love a rectangular dress watch. They’re subtle, sophisticated, and distinguish you from all your friends that are wearing big “look at me” sport or high-horology watches. The problem is that it can easily look like a wannabe Cartier Tank. Todd Snyder and Timex have done the impossible: The duo made a vintage-inspired dress watch that looks totally its own—not like your grandma’s vintage watch, not like a modern fashion bro’s Tank—and only costs $169. If I found a watch that looked like this in an antique store for $169, I’d buy it instantly. The fact you can do it brand new makes it the best release of the year.

The watches weren’t the first thing I noticed sitting at the Todd Snyder spring/summer 2026 runway show last September. Honestly, I didn’t even see them until post show when the runway images hit my feed. Even then, I just assumed these were some widely available rectangular dress watches styled into the show. Let me be the first to say: This is a good thing. I’m obsessed with these watches.
For some time now, I’ve been into the little rectangular dress watch look. I’m a bit tired of wrist-checking and having some guy talk about the giant limited whatever on his wrist. (The other alternative I’m into is a real-deal tool watch that’s worn accordingly.) The problem with all these little dress watches is that I think they tend to fall into the trap of looking like a Cartier Tank. When you go for a rectangular dress watch, white dial, and roman numerals, I can’t think of anything else.

When I was a kid, the three things I wanted to get done as an adult were to be a father, a husband, and direct a movie.
My mom was a flight attendant for Pan Am, so she was flying internationally half the month my whole childhood. Sometimes, Christmas would be on December 15 or the 2nd of January or whatever, depending on whether she was in town. We never really had Sunday dinners. My dad was a freelance writer, director, producer, so he would either be on location or maybe downstairs in the basement writing a script.
My sister and I had a peer relationship with our parents; they were our managers.
