For Your Weekend: The Hands-Down Best Rye to Drink Right Now

The rules for rye whiskey are simple: The mash bill must be at least 51 percent rye (whiskeys released right at this minimum percentage are sometimes referred to as "barely legal"), it must be distilled to no more than 160 proof, and it must be aged in new charred oak containers (virtually always barrels). Unlike bourbon, flavor and coloring actually can be added to rye whiskey, unless it is designated as "straight" rye whiskey (which also means that it's at least two years old). There are also plenty of rye whiskeys being made in Kentucky, New York, Colorado, and every other state in the union, with mash bills ranging from 51 to sometimes 100 percent rye. And yes, there are many craft distilleries making commendable rye whiskeys—including Wigle, 291 Distillery, and Hotaling & Co.—that are starting to really compete with the old guard. Here are 10 of the best (and most readily available) rye whiskeys you can find today. Read More

The One Pair of Boots Every Man Should Have in His Arsenal

A little more than a year ago, we wrote a whole long thing about how you should consider the Wallabee—that iconic, wedge-soled, square-toed shoe from the good folks at Clarks—because everyone has a pair of the brand's desert boots and it's fun to branch out a bit. We still believe you should consider the Wallabee, but it has since come to our attention that...not everyone owns a pair of desert boots. This came as a shock. But after taking our Pirin tablets and steadying our breathing, we realized that though many of us came into the world of style in the age of forums and blogs—when every dude and his distant cousin were lacing up their DBs as a matter of course—the simple and stylish utility of the desert boot is not actually universal knowledge. Today, we're doing our small part to change that. Esquire Style Director Jonathan Evans explains why the classic style is one every guy should have in his arsenal—and why it's earned our latest Esquire Endorsement. Read More

The 20 Best Ghost Movies of All Time. Period.

There's a reason the ghost story has been a facet of human storytelling for ages; our first encounters often occur at childhood sleepovers, spinning tales that have been carried by oral tradition for generations. Whether based on a true story or fabricated off the cuff beside a bonfire, stories from the supernatural realm bring us closer to the haunting question of our mortality: What happens to us when we die? Like many of life's mysteries that oft go unanswered, we've still tried our damnedest to figure it out like the mere mortals we are. However off our guesses have been, they've made for some chilling, saddening, unsettling, and sometimes hilarious movies. From hole-eyed sheet figures and folklore, to found-footage films and seances-gone-wrong, the ghost story has snow-balled into a genre of its own and, naturally, it's become a fan favorite on the silver screen. Whether you're looking for a bone-chilling thriller, a spooky spoof, or just looking to get a bit existential with the whole life-after-death spiel, these are the best ghost movies of all time. Men are notoriously difficult to shop for. There's the husband who already bought himself everything he wants. The boyfriend with mercurial tastes.
