Bob Dylan Is 80-Years-Old Today. His Soul Is Infinitely Older.

He turns 80 today, the Master does. By Charlie P. Pierce's count, he has had at least seven different careers, something that Todd Haynes captured brilliantly in his movie, I'm Not There. (And on his latest album, he cops a little somethin'-somethin' from Walt Whitman, a direct literary ancestor, and titles a song, "I Contain Multitudes." He's not kidding.) For so many years, he captured the moment and bottled it in words, and now he seems to be writing from some timeless place of myth and story. He's the Norse skald, telling the stories of forgotten kings. He's the Irish seanchai, singing around the fire of the deeds of Cuchulainn. He's Virgil. He's Homer. He turns 80 years old today. His soul is infinitely older. Read More

Todd Snyder's string of damn-good collabs ain't stopping. Fresh off the fall's joint venture with L.L.Bean, the NYC-based designer is now teaming up with another legendary name: Jack Purcell. "I love collaborating with brands that have a deep heritage," Snyder says. The Best Pants and Shorts on Sale at Lululemon Right Now

Lululemon does a lot of things well. The tees? Solid. Tanks? Solid and sleeveless. The sweats are sleek but still cozy, and some of them are even dyed with lower-impact dyes sourced from food-production byproducts. But for some folks, Lululemon will always be about the pants. And the shorts. Basically anything that starts covering your waist and extends downward. If you're looking for the rare opportunity to get some pants—in a full size run, no less—for less than you'd normally pay, it's here. Don't sleep. Read More

A Legendary Parisian Shirtmaker and a New York Swimwear Brand Walk Onto the Beach...

Parisian shirtmaker Charvet is something of a national treasure in France. For George Sotelo, founder of Thorsun, a New York swimwear brand, Charvet was something of an early obsession. And it led to a collaboration with the house—its first in 180 years—that is available right now online, just in time for summer. Esquire's Nick Sullivan explains why Charvet and Thorsun's unexpected collab created this summer's most exciting trunks. Read More

Justin Bieber's New Haircut Is So Much Better Than the Dreadlocks

Imagine, if you will, a malicious gerbil living inside Justin Bieber's skull. Every once in a while, this tiny, nefarious rodent pushes the part of Bieber's brain that triggers a deep and abiding urge to style his hair in locs. The gerbil has lived in the pop star's skull since at least 2016, the first time Bieber succumbed to the urge. It slumbered for years, but last month, it crawled back out of hibernation, pushed the gray matter, and scurried back into its hidey hole. Luckily, this past weekend, Bieber (or his barber) picked up the clippers and fashioned his hair into nice new buzzcut. But the gerbil is the only reason Esquire's Jonathan Evans can fathom for why Bieber—who, last year, shared a post in which he vowed to educate himself on racial dynamics and Black culture—thought in April that it was a good idea to wear his very white hair in a traditionally Black hairstyle yet again. Long Live the Career Smoker

Dave Eggers' father was a smoker. A heavy smoker, a chain smoker, someone who bought cigarettes two cartons at a time. A career smoker. A professional smoker. His skin was gray, his teeth yellow, the first two fingers on his right hand jaundiced from the rub of cigarette filters. He was a smokers' smoker. A smoke machine. Read More
