The Best Bars in America

"What makes a bar an Esquire Best Bar?" It's a question Lifestyle Director Kevin Sintumuang gets asked a lot, and he tends to dodge it, mainly because it's so hard to answer in a satisfying and meaningful way. His canned reply is something like: "a place that you love so much you can't wait to experience it all over again." But he has always found that answer cliché—like a Yelp review presented by the Hallmark Channel. He masked a cringe every time he said it. But damn if this pandemic hasn't made that sentiment so true. A place you just can't wait to experience again? It's still his answer. Except now he really means it. Whether they're open or not so open, we hope you'll fall in love with this year's best bars, and all past (and future) places in our ever-growing hall of fame, when you can. Here are 27 places to have a drink when you really need one. Read More

15 Things Under $150 You Can Still Buy From Mr Porter's Huge Summer Sale

Heads up, folks: Mr Porter's infamous seasonal sale is back, and as per usual the beloved retailer isn't playing around. The site's currently offering up to a whopping 80 percent off a seemingly endless array of enviable product and it's all going fast. It's officially the "Oh shit, they still have my size!" point of the sale, and if you're trying to finesse that one piece you've had your eye on since it dropped way back when, Esquire's Avidan Grossman highly recommends getting in on the action sooner rather than later. Here are the 15 pieces to go for first. Read More

Alden Ehrenreich Has Been to Space and Back

Three years ago, Alden Ehrenreich did a very weird thing. He flew to Europe in the middle of winter to film a space movie. He dressed up as a space cowboy and hung out with a seven-foot-tall dog who wears a bandolier and communicates via guttural vocal fry. Alden, as this space cowboy, said things like parsec and thermal detonator and coaxium and wailed WOO-HOO. Now, he's making his big return: Starring in a TV adaptation of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, which will headline Peacock, NBC's new streaming service, when it launches on July 15. It'll be the first time most people have seen Ehrenreich in the two years since he's reentered orbit. Brady Langmann caught up with Ehrenreich about where he is now, and where he went in the years after playing Han Solo. Read More

Tucker Carlson Is on Another 'Vacation' After His Top Writer Was Fired for Doing Freelance Racism

It's likely that, when one of Fox News Channel's most influential employees was fired this past weekend, it was in part because of just how blatant his racist vitriol was. Blake Neff, top writer for Fox News' number-one primetime show, Tucker Carlson Tonight, was forced out after CNN exposed him as the anonymous author of disgusting posts on AutoAdmit, a forum frequented by law students. Carlson then announced last night he will embark on a "long-planned" vacation—you know, the kind that you leave for on a Tuesday. This is actually not the first Definitely Not Spontaneous Vacation that Carlson's taken recently. After a raft of white-supremacist terror threats last summer, Carlson dismissed the problem of white supremacy in America as a "hoax." When advertisers started to flee, Carlson fled to vacation. This has become a go-to tactic for the Fox News Channel when one of their hosts says the quiet part out loud. Read More

The 2021 Ford Bronco Is Back After 25 Years to Kick Ass and Turn Heads

It's not easy to bring back an icon, especially one that aims squarely at another 4x4 with a deep cult following: the Wrangler. The 2021 Bronco is the first Bronco produced since 1996. Automotive throwbacks can look too close to the original at the risk at living off the fumes of nostalgia. Other times, they can look, well, for lack of a better word, swoopy—one too many parabolas towards looking like a Prius. This Bronco, on the other hand, looks thoroughly like a Bronco but manages to feel like its own thing, too. Kevin Sintumuang got an up-close look before the world shut down. Here's what he saw. Clogs Are the So-Bad-They're-Good Shoes You Need This Summer

It wasn't too long ago that the clog—the footwear style of choice for stressed-out sous-chefs and kindly medical professionals alike—seemed doomed to remain relegated to the back of bustling restaurants and squeaky-clean hospital halls for all of eternity. I mean, c'mon. It's the clog. It was never going to be...cool, right? Right? Wrong. Sure, the style's functionality and comfort have always been big selling points (made all the more relevant by our current WFH reality), but it's more than that. Avidan Grossman explains (and picks out a dozen pairs to start with) here. Read More
