The House Is on Fire. Trump Keeps Saying It's a Tremendously Large Fireplace.

It is not in debate, really, whether the American slice of the coronavirus pandemic has spun out of control. The Fox News Channel, a loyal ally to both the president who has screwed this up and the Republican governors who have screwed this up, could not avoid the bare facts this morning. The United States had more than 62,000 new confirmed cases on Wednesday, a single-day record. That put us over 3 million cases total, number one in the world. We've got 132,000 deaths, also USA #1. Twenty-five percent of the world's deaths spread across just over four percent of its population. A complete and total failure, and a deadly one. Yet, the following is what we were greeted with Thursday morning from the President of the United States. Read More

The 14 Coolest Walking Shoes That Don't Sacrifice Style For Comfort

Lately, the lost art of the long, leisurely stroll has made a serious comeback. Do you know how bad things have to be for people to take up walking as, like, an actual pastime? People used to avoid walking like the plague, dude. But now—confronted with a very real plague that shows no sign of letting up any time soon—we're all walking everywhere we can with impunity. That being said, if you're going to do it, at least do it right. It's time to cop some proper walking gear. And sure, you could probably get away with wearing your comfiest pair of everyday beaters, but if you're serious about your newest hobby it's worth investing in a pair of shoes specifically made with walking in mind. The Supreme Court Ruled on Trump's Tax Returns in a Pretty Good Day for the Republic

The Supreme Court on Thursday did what most people expected it to do on the matter of El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago's financial records. It denied Congress's attempt to subpoena the material, but it did rule that New York County DA Cyrus Vance, Jr. one day could go gamboling through the vast vista of scams and grifts and frauds likely contained therein. Indeed, in ruling in Vance's favor. Charles P. Pierce explains why this is a major statement on presidential power and, in that regard, can rank with US v. Nixon and Jones v. Clinton. Hooray for that. Read More

The Second-Fastest Man Alive Is 38 and Wondering What Now

Justin Gatlin won the Olympic gold in the 100-meter dash sixteen years ago. He had a shot at doing it again at this year's Summer Games, in Tokyo. Then the coronavirus hit. The pandemic has lengthened the odds against Gatlin. His season had been choreographed for maximum efficiency, so that he'd be in peak condition from the U.S. track and field trials, in June, through the 100-meter final in Tokyo, in early August. Then in March, the Olympics were postponed and the spring season was canceled. "We were about to get on a plane," Gatlin tells Bruce Schoenfeld, "and then everything fell apart within a week." For the Summer issue of Esquire, Schoenfield went to Florida to spend time with Gatlin as he prepared for the second big comeback of his career, one he'll be making at age 39, a full year after he'd planned to do it. If you're a fan of Need Supply and its extensive selection of forward-looking, but eminently wearable, men's clothing, I've got some sad news. If you're looking to support the site one last time (though NSTO hasn't specified when exactly it will cease operating), head on over to the Need Supply web store now to browse a typically wide-ranging selection of what the site did best: fun, often interesting—but always approachable—menswear from a mix of emerging labels and big-name brands alike. Esquire's Avidan Grossman hand selected the best of what's available—and on sale—right now. Read More

Rudy Giuliani Got Pranked By Sacha Baron Cohen—Then Called the Cops

On Tuesday, former New York City Mayor and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani went to the Mark Hotel for what he believed was a legitimate interview about how the Trump administration has handled COVID-19. Amid the interview, Sacha Baron Cohen allegedly burst in wearing a pink lace bikini, yelling and screaming before running out again. Giuliani, faced with the grave threat of a person in a bikini, called the cops. Read More
