Sure, The Real Threat to America Right Now Is Basketball Teams Not Playing the National Anthem

Throughout Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, the shining lights of Fox News identified a grave threat to The America We Know and Love and analyzed it extensively. Was it the insurrectionist assault on the nation's Capitol, an attempt to overturn a free election and install a man in power in contravention of the expressed will of the people, the foundational principle of the democracy that we've always told ourselves sits at the core of the American experiment? Of course not. They cut away from the Senate impeachment trial at a key moment. But in more pressing news, it turns out that a basketball team had declined to play the national anthem before games in front of their nearly empty arena. The response on the Fox News Channel—which, now that it's hemorrhaging viewers to even more Normal networks, has devoted the entirety of its time between 7 p.m. and midnight to apocalyptic right-wing opinion programming—was to convene panels, arrange segments, and wonder what this meant for America itself. Here's Jack Holmes on the baffling priorities of the former president's favorite TV show. Read More

Ask Dave: Should I Break Up With My Friend Who's Careless About COVID?

In Ask Dave, Esquire's editor-at-large and resident (unlicensed) therapist Dave Holmes answers a question from readers. This week, Holmes received a question from a reader who's fed up with the COVID-careless actions of a close friend. They wrote, Dear Dave, I have a friend who posted pictures of themself at a wedding last weekend, where, like everybody in the pictures and stories, they were not wearing a mask. Oh, also, this person had told me a week before the wedding that they had COVID, then tested positive again on a Wednesday, and then went to the wedding on that Saturday. This person is, right now, on a group snowboarding trip out of state. Obviously, everyone flew. Can I still be friends with this person? Here, Holmes weights in on why "I'll be fine," is what'll do us all in. Read More

Bradley Cooper Is the New King of Dad Style. But It's Not Just Dad Style.

Fresh off an enviable run of *chef's kiss* cold-weather fits, Bradley Cooper swerves yet again, this time showing up in a simple beanie, buffalo-check flannel (worn buttoned all the way to the top, naturally), roomy carpenter jeans, and what seems to be a go-to pair of Red Wing boots. In other words, an eminently approachable look, though if you live anywhere in the Northeast we'd recommend adding a parka or three up top to finish the whole thing off. Cooper is once again holding it down for cool dads around the world, and as long as this dude keeps showing up in the perfect embodiment of everyman style, we'll keep reporting on it. That's a promise. In the meantime, steal his style here. Read More
