Anthony Bourdain, a Legendary Knife, an Auction, and a Love Story

Anthony Bourdain was enraptured with a knife. It was crafted for him in 2016 by Bob Kramer, a rockstar of knife-making, as Bourdain, a rockstar in his own right, called him, and it was influenced by Samurai sword-making and the literal stars—the iron used to form it was harvested from meteorites. There was mythology surrounding that knife, and there remains prestige, as it currently sits up for sale, the big-ticket item at the center of an auction of Bourdain's estate that closes Wednesday. The current bid for it is $50,000. More than a year after he died, the knife, alongside many little pieces of Anthony Bourdain's life, will be scattered around the world. Read More

Timex + Todd Snyder's Elegant, Affordable Marlin Watch Just Got the Blues

After bringing olive into the mix last month, Timex and Todd Snyder are back with another collaborative riff on the Marlin watch. This time, the timepiece gets an easygoing but elegant navy on the dial, a stainless steel case, and a brown, croc-embossed strap to finish things off. Like all Marlins, it comes in at an extremely unobtrusive 36mm, and has a hand-wound movement that—aside from being a simple and effective throwback—keeps the profile nice and low. Maybe the Catholic Church Should Worry Less About Joe Biden and More About the Abuse of Children

Oh, for the love of Christ, you should pardon the expression, are we going to go through this again? I'd like to commend Father Morey for the discretion with which he conducted his holy office, making sure that the local newspaper was informed of his act of public piety. Well done, Father. I expect we will soon be seeing commercials on the television advertising your services like one of those personal-injury law firms. This was a political act and, as such, with a clear sin of pride, profaned the sacrament worse than any vote Joe Biden ever cast. Read More

Filson's Lightweight, Tough-as-Nails Dryden Briefcase Should Be Your New Everyday Carry

I don't need to tell you that Filson makes bags that can take a beating. The company has built its entire reputation—we're talking more than 120 years of history, here—on creating and selling hard-wearing gear that can stand up to the rigors of the outdoors and, more recently, the modern office. The brand's signature twill bags are no exception. I love them (as does the rest of the Esquire crew), but I'll also be the first to admit that their ruggedness comes with a little extra heft to throw over your shoulder. Read More

One thing you should know about Jeffrey Martinez is that he understands and has cultivated and applies fortitude to his life.
