President Trump Debuted Two New Assaults on the Constitution in Two Days

It seems like a pretty elemental problem that the President of the United States is trying to simply erase clauses of the Constitution. This isn't a particularly new development in the tenure of Donald Trump, American president. I'm old enough to remember when El Jefe sought funding from Congress for his Big, Beautiful Wall—and then, when the ask was rejected, declared a phony "national emergency" so he could seize the money. This was a subversion of the power of the purse granted to the legislature under Article I of the United States Constitution, the most essential duty of that branch of our government and a core part of the separation of powers. If the president can take money for whatever he wants, he can do whatever he wants. Forget checks and balances. Read More

'One Grotesque Irony After Another': Inside the Rise and Fall of Gawker 2.0

On July 12, 2018, at the law offices of Ropes & Gray in a midtown Manhattan high-rise near Rockefeller Center, attorneys and bidders gathered for a bankruptcy auction. Up for sale: the domain name and online archives of Gawker, the once-mighty website whose know-it-all attitude and everyone's-a-target modus operandi helped define the New York media landscape in the 2000s. The site hadn't published a story in two years. Read More

How the Authors of All the President's Women Found 43 New Allegations of Sexual Misconduct Against Donald Trump

If you thought reporters had turned over every stone in the case of Donald Trump's transgressions against women, think again. In their new book, All the President's Women: Donald Trump and the Making of a Predator, veteran journalists Barry Levine and Monique El-Faizy draw on over 100 interviews, many of them exclusive interviews with subjects speaking out for the first time, to piece together a detailed tapestry of Trump's relationships with women, stretching all the way back to his upbringing by retrogressive parents and his days as a military school lothario. Levine and El-Faizy chronicle Trump's rise through real estate, media, and eventually politics, all the while with a carousel of beautiful women on his arm. What emerges from this compendium of reporting are disturbing patterns of predatory behavior from a man who uses wealth and power to abuse women, as well as deep insight to the cultural forces that have allowed such predators to operate free of consequences. Zion Williamson on the Moment He Realized Everything That Was Ahead of Him

One of Esquire's last ESQ&As with an NBA player was in 2011, when Scott Raab interviewed Dwight Howard at a Manhattan steakhouse. There's two bits in the interview that make you realize how the NBA has aged about 50 years this decade: 1) Howard muses on his upcoming free agency in a way that would be aggregated to oblivion in 2019, and 2) The then-Magic superstar talks about how he would smile so much when he was playing basketball that his dad told him to stop doing it. That second part had me wondering: In an era when NBA stars hop-scotch teams at will, just about every other foul call earns the are-you-serious face from a Harden or a Westbrook, and the stray subtweet causes anything ranging from a three-day media parade to a global crisis…are these guys having fun anymore?
