This Guy Now Owes Trump a Favor. Think About That.

Doing business with the ex-Blackwater chief is bad news, and currying favor with him by pardoning his war criminal employees is doing serious business with him.

Erik Prince Now Owes the President* a Favor. Think About That.

Erik Prince is perhaps the most dangerous private citizen in the country. He created Blackwater to launder mercenary activities around the world, and then changed the company's name after some of his hirelings murdered civilians in Iraq. He held clandestine meetings in out-of-the-way places on behalf of the president's campaign, and the president* named his sister, Betsy DeVos, to be Secretary of Education, a job for which she was as qualified as I would be to fly a 747, and a job in which she did very little, and all of it badly. These are people with too much power and too much influence. On Tuesday evening, the president* did Prince a solid. Here's Charles P. Pierce on why doing business with the ex-Blackwater chief is bad news, and currying favor with him by pardoning his war criminal employees is doing serious business with him. Read More

Acne Studios' Luxuriously Cozy Canada Scarf Is Like a Warm Hug on a Cold Day

Were all of us scarred by the experience of pulling on extremely scratchy woolen items supplied by grandparents and forced upon our childhood selves during the holidays, or just most of us? Either way, there's a common misconception, bafflingly still held in 2020, that wool is always itchy. It is not! Some wool is so soft and sumptuous it'll have you asking, "Cashmere who?" and wondering why you haven't been draping yourself in the stuff for as long as you can remember. This scarf is made from that wool. Here's Style Director Jonathan Evans on why it's earned our latest Esquire Endorsement. Read More

Todd Snyder's New Balance 997 Is an Ode to the Sneaker's '90s Heyday

The year ain't over yet, and New Balance sure isn't finished. The brand dropped yet another piping-hot collaborative banger, this time courtesy of its ongoing partnership with Todd Snyder, the Midwestern maestro of modern menswear. Dubbed the 997 Triborough, the special-edition silhouette—available in navy, burgundy, and good ol' gray—pays tribute to NB's iconic Steven Smith-designed running shoe, first introduced in 1990 and then retired less than a decade after its release. The newly revamped version of the style once again features the "Flying NB" logo that first graced the sides of early 997 models, and hasn't been seen since the sneaker was discontinued in the mid '90s. Taken in aggregate, the reimagined 997 represents a triumphant return to form (helped along, of course, by a heavy dose of '90s nostalgia) for a style whose heyday was all too short-lived. When a Bottle of Costco Bourbon Is More Than Just a Bottle of Costco Bourbon

After the death of his friend, Mark, Ryan D'Agostino received a bottle of bourbon as a gift from Mark's wife. "He said it was good. With a little ice. I dunno" she told D'Agostino. The bourbon was from Costco. Kirkland brand. The same brand on a bag of chips in his pantry and on a half case of 5W-30 in his garage. A couple of months later, with supplies running low amid the pandemic, D'Agostino cracked open the bottle. It was indeed, good. But after a few sips, he felt more than just the whiskey.
