Who doesn't love a good action movie? I'm partial to the guns-a-blazing hits of the '80s, but modern entries in the genre have been damn good, too. From the martial-arts epic The Furious to the newly released Resident Evil, Eric Francisco and Josh Rosenberg rounded up the best action movies of the year below. —Brady Langmann, senior entertainment editor

Martial artists, dinosaurs, and monsters rumble in the most explosive films of the year.

Summer is over. But that doesn’t mean the fireworks have to end. 2026 has been a hell of a year for action cinema, with genre junkies feasting like it’s Thanksgiving. And it’s not just Hollywood that’s giving audiences high-octane mayhem we’ll be talking about for years to come.
Off the rip, The Furious is the best action movie of 2026. Bar none. Director Kenji Tanigaki has sharpened his skills as an action choreographer and director for more than twenty years, and The Furious, his third feature film, is the culmination of all his blood, sweat, and tears. (For a proper primer, seek out Tanigaki’s previous work in movies like Raging Fire from 2021 and Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In and The Prosecutor, both from 2024.)

Comedian, TV host, and YouTube creator Hasan Minhaj has every intention to kill fellow comic and actor Ronny Chieng—live, onstage—in their new stand-up show Hasan Hates Ronny/Ronny Hates Hasan. It’s touring now, but in October in Oakland the performance will tape for future streaming on Netflix. It’s during that show, Minhaj swears, that someone will die.
This is, of course, all a joke, which arrives in a new episode of Esquire’s “What I’ve Learned,” streaming above. “Netflix has done a lot of things,” teases Minhaj. “They know that hatred, bigotry, it really does well on the algorithm. What if we did a full snuff film? And we just went for it?”

I hate to be that millennial, but like many of my generational brethren, I’m an absolute sucker for autumn. The summer heat tapers off. We can wear sweaters again. Greens are out; oranges and reds and yellows are in. And apple picking—I’m one of the few proud early-30s dudes without kids who’s totally down to pay to pick his own produce. All that’s to say, I love fall, and the absolute best part about it is that it’s the official start of whiskey season.
You can certainly enjoy whiskey year-round, but to me, it’s more appealing to sip a warming oak-forward spirit on a cool, breezy night than on a sweaty summer day. Which is why I was excited to find out that one of my favorite whiskey brands, Booker’s, has released a special-edition rye whiskey that’s engineered for autumn.
